UF hosting 5th Annual University Transportation Centers Conference

for the Southeastern Region

November 16-17, 2017

The University of Florida Transportation Institute will be demonstrating their research with traffic signal control with connected and autonomous vehicles in the traffic stream.

Media are welcome to attend the following events:

WHAT:

Live field demonstrations of Automated and Connected Vehicle (AC/CV) technology by the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) and The Center for Connected Multimodal Mobility (C2M2) at Clemson University. Tesla will be present to provide a live demonstration.

UF will be testing vehicles communicating to the traffic signal. These vehicles include normal vehicles outfitted with radios, and autonomous vehicles equipped with the same radios. The information provided from the vehicles (gps location, speed, and heading) is used to improve signal timing. For human-driven vehicles, they are provided guidance on when the signal will turn yellow/red/green. For autonomous vehicles, they are provided specific trajectory information to the car's computer. The end result is a more efficient traffic management system, which means less delay to users of the roadway.

WHEN:

2:30-4 p.m. , November 16, 2017

WHERE:

Demo will be held at the Old RTS site, 100 SE 10th Avenue
