University of Florida temporarily closes New Engineering Building due to bomb threat

The New Engineering Building (NEB) on Center Drive has been evacuated, and will be temporarily closed until 3 pm today following an unspecified bomb threat. Classes in that building have been canceled for the remainder of the day, and will resume Thursday. College of Engineering will issue official information to faculty, staff and students as it becomes available.

Staff members found a handwritten note in the women’s rest room on the first floor. The building was immediately evacuated, and the University of Florida Police Department set up a perimeter around the building.

UFPD continues to sweep the building with officers and K9 units, and investigate.

Law enforcement officials believe the situation is contained and isolated, and did not warrant a University-wide UF Alert.
