Chris Adin named dean of UF College of Veterinary Medicine

Chris Adin has been named the next dean of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, effective Sept. 4.

“Dr. Adin’s 20-plus years of clinical experience as a board-certified small animal surgeon, his extensive research publication record and his passion for teaching and mentorship make him exceptionally well qualified to serve as dean,” said UF President Stuart R. Bell. 

Adin currently serves as the college’s executive associate dean, a position he has held since 2022. He also has served as director of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges Leadership Academy since January 2025.

Adin first joined UF as an assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and remained in the position until 2006. He returned to UF in 2018 as a professor and chair of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

Before returning to UF, Adin was an associate professor at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2015 to 2018 and a faculty member at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2008 to 2015.

Adin earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Duke University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University. He completed a fellowship and residency at the University of California, Davis.

His honors include UF’s Small Animal Teacher of the Year award in 2024 and 2025 and Ohio State’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015.

A board-certified small animal surgeon, Adin brings more than 20 years of clinical experience to the role, along with an extensive research publication record and a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship.

Adin succeeds Dana Zimmel, whose 25 years of leadership, including seven years as dean, helped guide the college through significant growth and establish a strong foundation for its future.
