The University of Florida has been ranked the No. 1 best-value public university in the nation in 2026 by SmartAsset, reflecting the university's combination of affordability and strong student outcomes.

SmartAsset, a New York-based financial technology company, evaluated more than 500 public colleges and universities nationwide to identify institutions that provide the strongest value for students. The analysis focused on schools with below-median costs of attendance for their peer groups and ranked them using graduation rates and median alumni earnings 10 years after first enrollment.

UF earned the top ranking with a 91% graduation rate and median alumni earnings of $71,588 a decade after first enrollment. Other Florida schools that made the list are Florida International University at No. 8, the University of Central Florida at No. 10 and the University of South Florida at No. 11.

“This is yet another piece of evidence showing the University of Florida is an amazing institution and a tremendous asset for the great state of Florida,” said Mori Hosseini, UF Board of Trustees chair. “We have shown again and again that no other university in the country provides a better return on investment.”

UF President Stuart R. Bell also welcomed the ranking.

“There is no doubt in my mind that University of Florida students receive an outstanding and affordable educational experience that prepares them to become top-flight leaders in their chosen professions,” Bell said.

The recognition adds to a growing list of national rankings highlighting UF's academic excellence, affordability and student success. The university has consistently been recognized among the nation's top public universities while maintaining its focus on expanding access and preparing graduates for successful careers.
