UF adds Early Decision admissions option starting Fall '27

The University of Florida announced Thursday it will add Early Decision as an admission application option, providing first-time students with the opportunity to secure their spot in the Gator Nation at an earlier stage of the admissions cycle.

This binding option will allow highly qualified students, who are confident in UF as their clear first choice, to apply as early as Aug. 1 and receive an admissions decision by Dec. 11, several months earlier than Regular Decision. If admitted, students must commit to enrolling at UF and are required to withdraw their applications from other schools.

UF’s decision to implement Early Decision is based on feedback from the high school guidance counseling community, as well as students and families who have increasingly expressed a desire for UF to add the additional admissions option to the application process. The adoption of an earlier deadline will also enhance UF’s competitiveness with its peer flagship and aspirational institutions that already leverage Early Decision to attract candidates with top academic credentials.

“Through Early Decision, we hope to provide students who are passionate about attending the University of Florida with more selection flexibility,” said Mary Parker, vice president of Enrollment Management. “This will allow students to finish their senior year with their college plans finalized and give them more time to prepare for their future at UF.”

Early Decision will be implemented for the upcoming admissions cycle and will benefit aspiring, first-time Gators entering during Fall 2027. While applications will open on Aug. 1, the application deadline for Early Decision will be Oct. 15.

As part of this new, binding application process, a written commitment to enroll at UF signed by the candidate, a parent or guardian, and a high school counselor will be required.

UF will continue to offer Early Action and Regular Decision, which are both non-binding, for prospective students who prefer greater flexibility. The addition of Early Decision will not shift application deadlines for existing Early Action and Regular Decision admissions plans.

Regardless of the application plan selected by prospective students, UF will employ the same comprehensive review process that evaluates academic and nonacademic criteria aimed at determining a candidate's chance of academic success. Also, students who apply Early Decision will remain eligible for all available financial aid and scholarships.
