Nearly 10,800 graduates plan to celebrate at spring commencement

Nearly 10,800 students are expected to graduate from the University of Florida during the course of 17 commencement ceremonies held from Wednesday, April 30 to Monday, May 5.  

UF's university-wide commencement ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 2. This ceremony is at Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium begins at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to be an hour. This spring’s graduates hail from six continents, representing 88 countries and all 50 states.

The speaker for the university-wide ceremony will be Interim President Kent Fuchs. Sachio Semmoto, a UF alumnus and entrepreneur who founded one of the largest telecommunications companies in Japan, will address graduates at the Doctoral Commencement Ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1 in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

Semmoto will receive the Honorary Doctorate in Technology at the doctoral ceremony.

POTENTIAL WEATHER IMPACT: In the event of rain, graduates will be provided with a clear poncho to wear over their robes. The university will communicate with graduates and the public if lightning or severe weather results in the university-wide ceremony being delayed or canceled.  

Note:  News media attending Friday’s university-wide commencement must check in between 6 and 6:30 p.m. at the elevator lobby on the north side of the Skybox Tower near Gate 3 (marked “Media/Disabled Seating Deck Entrance.”) Credentials will be issued on site and are required for field access.
