Wall Street Journal reporter Rachel Bachman to discuss sports media at annual journalism symposium

Rachel Bachman, a sports reporter for the Wall Street Journal, will join a panel of other sports media professionals to discuss the role of artificial intelligence and data in sports as part of the annual Sports Collective Symposium hosted by the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications.

The symposium takes place from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 at the Reitz Union‘s Rion Ballroom. It will feature multiple panels and a keynote talk by Kristina Fitzpatrick, an alumnus of UF, longtime sports reporter and former anchor on the HLN network. The symposium is free and open to the public for in-person or online attendance. To attend, register by March 3

As this semester’s Business Journalist in Residence, Bachman will also meet with students, faculty and staff to share her expertise across campus during her week-long visit March 3 – 7. 

As a senior sports reporter for the Journal, Bachman has covered every Olympics since 2010, including the most recent Paris Games. Among other stories, Bachman has reported on how household baking soda is helping athletes demolish records; the ability of deep-pocketed investors to shift team fortunes overnight; the money fueling more women’s sports stadiums; and the rise of Caitlin Clark as a cultural — and financial — force in women’s sports.

Before joining the Journal, Bachman covered college basketball and football and the NBA for the Oregonian in Portland. She graduated from the University of Michigan
