Marston Library to offer extended hours

The University of Florida’s Marston Science Library will be open 24 hours per day Sunday through Thursday starting Monday, Sept. 9 and continuing through the fall and spring semesters until May 2, 2025.

The extended hours are made possible through the support of the UF Office of the Provost, reflecting a commitment to students and to enhancing their academic experience.

“We understand that students often have trouble finding a safe and quiet place to study late at night, whether because of work, family, or just having to get away from loud roommates,” said UF Provost Scott Angle. “We hope that 24-hour access to the library will help those students, as well as the night owls who do their best work when the rest of us are asleep.”

Students are thrilled to learn that 24-hour access is available.

“Marston is such a cornerstone for students at the University of Florida,” said Emily Webster, a media production, management, and technology third-year student at UF.

“For so many of us, it is the main place we go not only to study, but also to collaborate with our classmates and even spend some time with our friends. So, to be able to have a resource like Marston open 24 hours during the week is truly a gift. Extra thankful that I can continue to spend my late nights there during finals week,” Webster said.

Marston Science Library is known for its state-of-the-art facilities and extensive resources, making it an ideal location for students seeking a conducive study environment. Currently, more than 300 students close down Marston at 1 a.m. each night, but starting Sept. 9, those students will be able to stay for as long as they need to. With 24/5 service, students with late-night study needs can also look forward to uninterrupted access to Marston’s many services and resources.

“We are very grateful to Provost Angle for recognizing this need and funding it on behalf of our students,” said Judy Russell, dean of University Libraries. “We are committed to providing access to study space and other services when and where needed.”
