Hurricane Ian – Update 12 – 9/29/2022

University of Florida officials continue monitoring Hurricane Ian. Here is what we know today:
Ian strengthened once again into a hurricane on Thursday, as it continued its north-northeast trek along northeast Florida.
The National Hurricane canceled the tropical storm watch for Alachua County, which includes Gainesville, as of the 5 p.m. advisory. Despite some strong wind gusts, forecasters believe weather conditions will continue to improve in Gainesville as the night progresses.
Hurricane conditions are possible by tonight along the coast of Northeast Florida. Heavy rainfall will continue to spread across the northeastern parts of the Florida peninsula and reach portions of the Southeast U.S. later this week.
UF units should continue to monitor forecasts and follow guidance from local officials.
The University of Florida campus in Gainesville will remain closed through Friday, Sept. 30. Only essential university personnel should report for work.
The university expects to reopen and resume classes and normal campus operations on Saturday, Oct. 1.
