Graduate research professor to receive Humboldt Research Award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Rodney J. Bartlett, University of Florida graduate research professor in chemistry and physics, has received the Humboldt Research Award recognizing lifetime achievements in research.

A former Guggenheim Fellow at Harvard and the University of California Berkeley, Bartlett is internationally recognized for pioneering new methods in quantum chemistry. He received his doctoral degree in quantum chemistry from UF in 1971, and returned to teach here as a professor of chemistry and physics in 1981. He directs UF’s Quantum Theory Project.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany annually gives these awards to researchers who have already significantly affected their own disciplines and who continue to innovate in the field. The award connects recipients with specialist colleagues in Germany with whom they can collaborate on long-term research projects. The award is valued at more than $80,000.
