A decade among the best: UF marks 10th consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report top 10 public universities

For the 10th time running, the University of Florida is listed among the nation’s 10 best public universities, according to the 2027 U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” rankings released today.

The decade-long streak underscores UF’s sustained national standing for academic excellence, student success and research impact. In the most recent U.S. News rankings, UF placed No. 8 among public universities and 34th overall.

“For 10 consecutive years, the University of Florida has been recognized among the nation’s top public universities," said Mori Hosseini, chair of UF’s Board of Trustees. “There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind now that this is where UF belongs, and even greater things are coming. That kind of consistency is the result of the hard work of our faculty, staff and students, the support of our Legislature and our governor and a shared commitment to making UF better every year. We are proud of how far this university has come, and we are not slowing down.”

UF President Stuart Bell echoed Hosseini’s sentiments.

“This 10-year milestone is a reflection of the sustained excellence happening across the University of Florida, from the classroom and laboratory to the communities and industries we serve," Bell said. "We are building a university that is not only among the nation’s best, but one that is increasingly defining what a great public university can accomplish.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluates universities based on a range of factors, including graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity and financial resources. The full rankings are available at usnews.com/best-colleges.

The ranking adds to a growing list of national accolades for UF.

In August, TIME magazine ranked UF No. 4 among public universities in its inaugural “America’s Best Colleges of 2026-2027” ranking, which evaluates institutions based on student outcomes, learning environment and attractiveness to students.

UF also ranked No. 9 among public universities in Forbes’ “America’s Top Colleges” list published this month, which highlights colleges producing high-earning, successful and influential graduates from all economic backgrounds, with less student debt.
