In this photo released from the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, entomologists Ron Cave, left, and Howard Frank make the first-ever release of a parasitic fly that may protect native bromeliads at Northwest Equestrian Park in Hillsborough County – Friday, June 29, 2007. Since 1989, the state’s airplants have been under attack by an invasive Mexican weevil that has no natural enemies in Florida. After years of laboratory study, the UF researchers will learn if the fly controls the pest in natural settings.
