In this photo released from the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, entomologist Michael Scharf watches termites crawl on a decaying log at UF’s entomology department (Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007). Scharf was part of a UF research team that identified several genes that help the insects digest cellulose, a major component of wood fiber.
