Heart Pump Photo
GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- University of Florida doctoral student Mattias Stenberg demonstrates a new pump designed by UF students that makes it possible to create smaller and smarter heart pumps. The pump has a unique dual-chamber design that enables the pump to fill throughout the pumping cycle, while the pulsating outflow allows for greater control over fluid volume passing through the pump. The large device in the background is the prototype, designed in 1991 and built in 2004. The smaller white pump in the foreground was designed by a team of UF undergraduate engineering students as part of UF’s yearlong Integrated Process and Product Design program.
