Head of nuclear weapons lab to speak at Engineering graduation

Hunter will speak at the University of Florida College of Engineering graduation ceremony. A total of about 500 graduates are expected to attend the ceremony. The college expects to award 739 engineering degrees this spring, including 479 bachelor’s, 196 master’s and 64 doctoral degrees.

UF bat house will receive nursery module for baby bat safety

Volunteers from state and federal agencies and others will join UF employees to install a new module of roosting fins inside the UF Bat House to protect bat pups from falls and predators. The addition is identical to a successful one completed last April. Covering one fourth of the area beneath the bat house, the module will create an environment similar to nursery colonies found in the wild.

Veterinary Medicine Open House

The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine Open House. The public is invited to visit the state’s only college of veterinary medicine and teaching hospital for a full day of educational demonstrations, tours and more. The open house is organized by UF veterinary students to give the public an inside look at the daily life of veterinarians and veterinarians-to-be. Visitors will have the opportunity to see “Disc Connected,” the K-9 Frisbee team and to peruse displays by many UF veterinary college departments and student clubs. Also available will be a Kid’s Carnival, pet adoptions, pony rides, tours and much more. New this year will be a lecture on behavior problems of adopted pets and a special mini-symposium on emerging pathogens and the role of veterinary medicine.

Competition emphasizes interdisciplinary teamwork

2006 Witters Competition – Student design teams at the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning will compete for a $3,500 prize as each team races to create designs and solutions for East Gainesville’s historic Cotton Club and surrounding historic structures located in the Springhill neighborhood.

UF hosts inaugural religion, nature and culture conference

The society’s inaugural conference, “Exploring Religion, Nature and Culture,” will include keynote and plenary speakers Carolyn Merchant, Stephen Kellert and Mark Bekoff, as well as more than 140 international scholars presenting their work. UF students and faculty, and members of the Gainesville community are welcome to attend the conference, most of which will be free.
