UF experts on post-traumatic stress disorder research and therapy

Michael Jaffee, director, Trauma, Concussion and Sports Neuromedicine program; vice chair, Department of Neurology, UF College of Medicine; Bob Paul Family Professor of Neurology

Research interests: Traumatic brain injury and utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to developmental strategies for assessment and management

Jaffee has dedicated a significant part of his career to developing innovative educational and research collaborations between the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies, academic institutions and other stakeholders, including the National Football League and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carol Lewis, associate professor, department of psychiatry, UF College of Medicine

Research interests: Public behavioral health; low intensity treatments for depression and anxiety; development of innovative public behavioral health intervention models; trauma, ACES and resilience

Lewis is involved in research to develop public behavioral health interventions that can be administered by briefly trained non-professionals. This research is currently being conducted for UF’s Mobile Outreach Clinic, a bus-based clinic providing no-cost healthcare to underserved populations in Gainesville, Fla.

John Williamson, director, Center for Neuropsychological Studies; director Stroke Neuropsychology Service; assistant professor, department of neurology, UF College of Medicine

Research interests: Central and peripheral autonomic nervous system interactions; cardiac output modification in changing cognitive outcomes in patients with heart failure; traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder

Williamson works to understand the mechanism of brain dysfunction in disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and cerebrovascular disease and to develop applied solutions to the problems that most impact quality of life in individuals who struggle with these issues.
