Graduate Assistants to receive across-the-board raise

The University of Florida and Graduate Assistants United, the union representing about 4,000 graduate students with an employment role at the university, have reached agreement on a salary increase package beginning Jan. 1.

The agreement provides an across-the-board raise of $430 for all graduate assistants plus an additional $50 to help offset the mandatory student fees they pay. The total raise ($480) equates to a 2.5 percent average increase, similar to other employee groups on campus.

The agreement was ratified last week by the union and approved by the UF Board of Trustees.

“This agreement addresses union concerns about fees and those earning the least,” Provost Joe Glover said. “The total package helps the university in its quest to make graduate assistant pay more competitive nationally.”
