Graham Center presents first public lecture series

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Bob Graham Center for Public Service has organized a lecture series on civic engagement this year as the first in what is to become a host of public events the Gainesville community can look forward to from the new University of Florida center.

Florida Players announce fall productions

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Players have announced three upcoming productions for the fall 2007 season. “The Shape of Things” written by Neil Labute debuts on Oct. 4 and continues through Oct. 7 at the Phillips Center Blackbox Theatre. “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” written by Bert V. Royal will be presented Oct. 25-28 at the McGuire Blackbox Theatre. And Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at the Phillips Center Blackbox Theatre will be “The House of Yes,” written by Wendy MacLeod.

Fans asked to participate in SEC food drive

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gator football fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and other non-perishable foods to the Alltel Wireless Fan Fest prior to the Saturday Sept. 29 game against Auburn. The collection will benefit Gainesville area food banks, and is part of the Southeastern Conference’s “Together We Can” food drive.

Sea World vet to help run UF program in aquatic animal health

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mike Walsh, D.V.M., a former head veterinarian at Sea World of Florida, has joined the administrative staff at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where he now serves as associate director of UF’s Aquatic Animal Health program.

Interim associate dean named at Veterinary College

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Thomas W. Vickroy, Ph.D., a pharmacology professor and longtime University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member, has been named interim associate dean for students and instruction at the college.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant director to speak at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The head of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s grant program, which distributes almost $700 million annually for scientific research, will speak about science education at the University of Florida Sept. 28.

College announces senior administrative team

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The College of Design, Construction and Planning at the University of Florida has announced the appointment of associate and assistant deans Margaret Carr, Paul Zwick and William Tilson. Carr and Tilson join Zwick in the Dean’s Office after internal searches to fulfill the positions during the 2006-07 academic year.
