UF chosen for EPA’s best workplace for commuters list

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named the University of Florida as one of the best workplaces for commuters among colleges and universities.

BellSouth Foundation awards $600,000 grant to University of Florida College of Education

ATLANTA — The BellSouth Foundation today announced that the University of Florida College of Education will receive a $600,000 grant to develop a comprehensive strategy for measuring and assessing the outcomes of the BellSouth 20/20 Vision for Education initiative.

UF’s Rinker School receives $100,000 gift

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The UF South Florida BCN Alumni Club presented a $100,000 check to the M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction at the school’s 70th Anniversary Banquet and Fundraiser May 9. The gift will help fund the school’s 70th Anniversary Endowed Faculty Support Fund to provide for new faculty members.

Documentary Institute receives second Barnouw Award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The teachers and filmmakers who make up the College of Journalism’s Documentary Institute — Sandra Dickson, Churchill Roberts, Cindy Hill and Cara Pilson — recently received their second Erik Barnouw Award.

P.K. Nair to receive prestigious Humboldt Research Award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — P.K. Nair, a distinguished professor of agroforestry at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, has been selected to receive the Humboldt Research Award – also known as the Humboldt Prize – which is Germany’s highest research award for senior scientists in the United States.

Harn Museum receives City Beautification Board’s highest honor

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Harn Museum of Art accepted the Gainesville City Beautification Board’s 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award at an awards ceremony April 26 at the Thomas Center in downtown Gainesville.
