UF chapter of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society wins award

The University of Florida chapter of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society was among 18 chapters to receive the Golden Torch Award at a national conference held July 22-24 in Columbus, Ohio.

UF’s Physical Plant Division wins distinctive honor for maintenance

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Physical Plant Division did something that only 30 other universities have ever done – it was recognized with the APPA Award of Excellence in Facilities Maintenance on Saturday.

UF/IFAS students win fourth consecutive national quiz bowl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For the fourth consecutive year, a University of Florida team of students has won the annual North American Academic Quiz Bowl competition at the national meeting of the American Agricultural Economics Association.

Grants boost distance-learning at UF College of Education

University of Florida education technology instructor Richard Ferdig believes earning an education degree shouldn’t be confined to the College of Education’s classrooms at Norman Hall. Ferdig, an assistant professor, and the college are working to provide more online education courses at the high school, undergraduate and graduate levels.

Sigsby recognized by journal for writing excellence

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida College of Nursing Assistant Professor Linda Sigsby, M.S., R.N., C.N.O.R., recently received the 2005 Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Journal writing award. The annual award is sponsored Medi-Flex Inc. and recognizes excellence in writing.

UF Engineering receives $1 million-plus gift from Harris Corp.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In a major show of support for the University of Florida’s College of Engineering, the Harris Corp., an international communications equipment company headquartered in Melbourne, Fla., announced a pledge Friday of $1,025,000 to the college. The gift will be used to endow multiple professorships in UF’s engineering program.

Fla. Museum Receives Grant For Wildflower, Butterfly Project

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History has received a $94,409 grant from the Florida Wildflower Advisory Council and the Florida Wildflower Foundation Inc. for projects that educate the public about Florida’s wildflowers and butterflies.

UF receives five-year grant to increase diversity in graduate programs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida has been awarded a $6.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation to lead a coalition of universities and colleges throughout the Southeast as part of a program to increase the number of domestic minority students earning doctorates in science, engineering and mathematics.

Six Chosen as Inaugural Members in UF Academy of Teaching Scholars

Confidence Leads Couple to Give More Than $800K to UF Shands Cancer Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After life-threatening maladies beset their family three times in eight years, a Palm City couple donated more than $800,000 to the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center.
