GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A $2 million gift made to the College of Medicine and the College of Design, Construction and Planning at the University of Florida will help mend buildings, construct hearts and reduce pediatric diabetes.

This weekend, garden staff will be available to answer questions at an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Betty Smocovitis, a professor of zoology and history, has been selected to serve as a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Society visiting scholar, just one year after botanist Pam Soltis at the Florida Museum of Natural History became the first person to receive the honor at UF since 1970.
