Harn highlights Ethiopian art during Museum Nights

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –– The Harn Museum will highlight the current exhibition of Ethiopian art during Museum Nights on March 29 with a docent-led exhibition spotlight tour of “Continuity and Change: Three Generations of Ethiopian Artists” at 7:30 p.m.

Florida Players rehearsing day by day for ‘Godspell’

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Players, the University of Florida’s student-run theater company, is excited to present “Godspell,” the first of two musicals in its spring 2007 season. The production will be staged in the Nadine McGuire Black Box Theatre March 29 through April 1. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. March 29, 30 and 31, and 1:30 p.m. March 31 and April 1.

Phillips Center to host National Philharmonic of Russia with pianist Olga Kern

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Olga Kern made history in 2001 when she was awarded the gold medal at the 11th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Kern was the first woman in more than 30 years to win the coveted piano competition held in Forth Worth, Texas.

Stand-up comedian Lewis Black to speak at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Stand-up comedian, actor and playwright Lewis Black will speak at 8 p.m. March 28 in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the University of Florida campus. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m.

Houston physician named College of Medicine dean

University of Florida hosts international symposium on African art

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — From March 28 to April 1, more than 400 participants of the Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA) Fourteenth Triennial Symposium on African Art will be hosted by the University of Florida’s Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, College of Fine Arts, School of Art and Art History, and Center for African Studies.

A Reader’s Theatre to perform selected scenes from ‘The Collection,’ ‘A Body of Water’

On March 23 and 24, the University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance will present a Reader’s Theatre Production of selected scenes for two plays: “The Collection” by Harold Pinter and “A Body of Water” by Lee Blessing. Performances on each day will begin at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in the Nadine McGuire Pavilion.
