UF biotechnology center appoints director with ‘stellar’ qualifications

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For two decades, the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) has laid the cutting-edge tools of genetics and molecular biology at the fingertips of University of Florida researchers. This summer, it advances that mission as ICBR expands into new state-of-the-art facilities under the guidance of a new director. That is, just as soon as the new director gets back from Mars — or, at least as close to Mars as you can find on Earth.

Researchers aim to curb high-risk drinking among college freshmen

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — This fall, researchers at University of Florida will begin investigating high-risk drinking behavior among first-year college students and health marketing prevention methods that influence this behavior, thanks to a $283,745-grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.

DARE honors UF addiction expert

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Dr. Mark Gold, a distinguished professor and chief of addiction medicine with the McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida, received the 2006 DARE America Distinguished Service Award on Wednesday in Orlando at the organization’s 19th annual international conference.

UF professor, Parkinson’s patients to bike across Iowa

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — College of Health and Human Performance assistant professor Chris Hass will join fellow researchers and Parkinson’s disease patients in a 450-mile bicycle ride across Iowa July 23-29 with the Pedaling for Parkinson’s team.
