National conference on child health psychology to be held at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Emerging areas in child health psychology, family systems, health promotion, treatment outcome and HIV/AIDS will be among the topics addressed at the 10th National Conference on Child Health Psychology, to be held April 19-22.

Local musical groups unite to present Dvo?ák’s Requiem, Saturday, April 22, at the Phillips Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In an event of mammoth proportions, the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir and the Gainesville Civic Chorus Master Chorale will present Antonin Dvo?ák’s “Requiem” at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. A pre-performance discussion will be held in the Phillips Center Black Box Theatre at 6:45 p.m.

Machen appoints curator and archivist as official UF historian

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida archivist Carl Van Ness has been named the university’s official historian, UF President Bernie Machen announced today. Van Ness succeeds Samuel Proctor, who was the first person named to the position when it was created in the 1950s and held it until he died in 2005.

Manatee experts to discuss book at local bookstore

Nobel laureate to speak at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Nobel laureate Peter C. Agre will present the keynote address at the College of Medicine’s annual research day at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the Health Professions/Nursing/Pharmacy Complex at the University of Florida.

Florida Museum, Alachua Astronomy Club present “Starry Night” April 13

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History and the Alachua Astronomy Club will offer “Starry Night: A Guided Tour of the Universe” from 5 to 10 p.m. April 13, featuring presentations, planetarium shows and star viewing. “Starry Night” will be held at the Florida Museum as part of its Museum Nights program.
