GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A University of Florida autism researcher whose program focuses on the in-home training of fathers to better communicate and play with their autistic children recently received $1.1 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health.
The University of Florida Athletic Association recently donated $75,000 to the George A. Smathers Libraries from proceeds of last season’s pay-per-view televised football games. Half of the amount has been added to a growing UAA Endowment, which now totals more than $500,000. Hal G. Lewis Sr., a distinguished service professor emeritus in education at the University of Florida and a crusader for desegregation of Florida schools and college campuses, died at his daughter’s home in Livermore, Cal., on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005. He was 97.
