It’s true. “The Liar” is coming to the Constans Theatre.

The University of Florida School of Theatre + Dance will present its second summer production at the Constans Theatre July 9-12. Pierre Corneille’s play “The Liar” transplants the audience to the 17^th century world of comedy, romance and miscommunication.

Adapted by David Ives and directed by Judith Willams, “The Liar"features UF graduate and undergraduate students. Performances will be held in the Nadine M. McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion on UF’s campus at 7:30 p.m. on July 9-11, 2015 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12.

The play features Dorante, a charming young man newly arrived in Paris in 1643 who has one flaw: He cannot tell the truth. As luck would have it, Dorante meets Cliton, a manservant who cannot tell a lie.

“Corneille’s ‘The Liar’ creates the patina of 17^th century Paris during the reign of Louis XIV in which to set a clever expose on lying and liars,” said Williams. “This play is relevant because lying is a major theme everyone can relate to. To quote Ives, ‘For in a world where priests and princes lie, the liar blends in like a butterfly.’”

Tickets are $17 for the general public, and $13 for students, UF faculty/staff and senior citizens. Group rates are available for parties of eight or more. Tickets are available through the University Box Office located at Gate 1 of the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, by calling 352-392-1653 or at ticketmaster.com. The University Box Office is open Tuesdays through Fridays 12-5:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Constans Theatre Box Office starting 45 minutes prior to the performance.

The Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion is located at 687 McCarty Drive. Parking is available across the street from the UF Bookstore & Welcome Center located on Museum Road.

The School of Theatre + Dance is one of the University of Florida College of the Arts’ institutionally accredited schools. Undergraduate students can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting, dance, musical theatre, theatre production — including costume lighting and scenic design — or a Bachelor of Arts degree in dance studies or general theatre.
