It’s a Fourth of July celebration on the third! Fanfares & Fireworks, Gainesville’s traditional Independence Day event, returns Friday, July 3, at 7 p.m. at the University of Florida Bandshell at Flavet Field. Admission is free.

In addition to a spectacular fireworks display, the event will feature a variety of musical groups and an opportunity for families to picnic in the grass.

Fanfares & Fireworks is presented by the UF College of Journalism and Communications and its media properties: public broadcasting stations WUFT-TV and WUFT-FM; commercial radio stations WRUF‐AM ESPN 850, Country 103.7 – The Gator and ROCK104.COM; and WRUF-TV.

Event sponsors include the City of Gainesville and the Florida Credit Union, with additional support from the University of Florida and GRU.

The musical lineup includes Bears and Lions, InCrisis Band and the Gainesville Community Band – under the direction of Gary Langford – who will perform traditional patriotic favorites. The University of Florida Billy Mitchell Drill Team Color Guard will join the band during a salute to the armed forces.

The fireworks will begin at approximately 9:40 p.m.

During the event, LifeSouth Blood Center will conduct a blood drive and Aramark concessions will be available for purchase. More information is available at http://www.wuft.org/fireworks.

For safety reasons, no dogs, sparklers or alcohol are allowed at the event. Coolers are allowed, but may be subject to search by the University Police Department.
