Nineteen UF scholars packing their bags and books this summer

The University of Florida International Center is pleased to announce that 19 UF students have been awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad this summer.

Undergraduate students from colleges and universities across the U.S. are eligible to receive the award. This year’s UF Gilman scholars and their summer destinations are:

  • Nada Ezaldein (United Kingdom)

  • Daimiris Garcia (France)
  • Pearl Hanna (Czech Republic)
  • Wondy Joseph (Czech Republic)
  • Amanda Mora (Peru)
  • Kadeem Morrison (Spain)
  • Michelle Nguyen (Vietnam)
  • Ashley Owens (India)
  • Rosalia Padron (France)
  • Latasia Polk (Tanzania)
  • Sabrina Siu (Germany)
  • Devon Smith (India)
  • Tiffany Zutten (Australia)

The program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers recipients the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages and economies – making them better prepared to assume leadership roles within government and the private sector. Gilman scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply towards their study abroad or internship program costs.

Congressman Gilman retired in 2002 after serving in the House of Representatives for 30 years and chairing the House Foreign Relations Committee.
