Art students bring imagination to Innovation Square

April 15, 2015

Creativity often powers innovation, but at UF’s Innovation Square, the reverse is also true.

A partnership between UF’s College of the Arts and Innovation Square – a 40-acre live/work/play community under development between campus and downtown Gainesville – brings art students’ ideas to life through public installations inthe urban art space at Innovation Square Park. Installations have ranged from metal sculptures to giant inflatables, and on Friday, a digital installation from UF’s Art + Technology class will fill the park with interactive pieces from 7-10 p.m.

The temporary installations not only give students a chance to display their work, but challenge our preconceptions of art, said Richard Heipp, director of UF’s School of Art and Art History.

“Contemporary art can involve much more than traditional painting or sculpture," he said. "It can include interactive, temporary and even virtual art."
