From penniless immigrant to business mogul and philanthropist

March 4, 2015

Entrepreneur and author Miguel "Mike" Fernandez will share his extraordinary personal story of achieving the American dream during a free lecture with UF and Santa Fe College students on Tuesday, March 10, at 4:15 p.m. in Emerson Alumni Hall.

Fernandez' presentation and book, “Humbled by the Journey: Life Lessons for My Family … And Yours," tells the story of how, at the age of 12, he came to the United States from Cuba penniless, and in adulthood built dozens of successful companies, many of which have been acquired by publicly traded companies. As chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners, a private investment firm in Coral Gables, Fernandez sold three companies in excess of $1.5 billion within the last year. He has contributed more than $100 million to charitable causes during the past two decades.

Lecture attendees will receive a complimentary signed copy of his book. For more information, please contact Maria Gutierrez Martin of UF’s College of Education at (352) 273-4144 or mmartin@coe.ufl.edu.
