ADDED: FUCHS EYE OPENER ADVISORY

ANEURYSM DISCOVERY --UF researchers have found a marker that heightens the risk of certain types of brain aneurysms and may also help indicate vulnerability to other types of serious neurological issues. Published in PNAS today (Jan. 12).

LIBRARY GRANT -- The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries have received a prestigious National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant of $500,000 to build an endowment fund that will broaden access to humanities resources relating to the Jewish experience in Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. The matching award provides a $1 match for every $3 raised.

SENT TUESDAY: CLIMATE WHEAT -- For every degree Celsius that the temperature increases, the world loses 6 percent of its wheat crop, according to a new global study led by a University of Florida scientist. That’s one fourth of the annual global wheat trade, which reached 147 million tons in 2013. Senthold Asseng, a UF professor of agricultural and biological engineering, used a computer model approach to reach the finding of temperature increases and wheat production.

UF events of possible media interest listed

Award-winning director to present documentary about “fairy-tales and personal memories” in Eastern Europe’s haunted woodlands.

“The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga,” the latest documentary film from director Jessica Oreck, will be shown Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. in Room 100 of Smathers Library East. Oreck will be present to field questions from the audience afterward.

Poster sale at Reitz Student Union

A back-to-school poster sale will be held in the Circle Breeze Driveway of the Reitz Union Jan. 12 – 16. The daily hours for the sale, sponsored by Programs, Arts and Leisure, are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
