'tis the season for Poinsettias
The University of Florida's department of environmental horticulture will hold its 18th annual Poinsettia Sale and Show at the Fifield Hall greenhouses on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 12, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 30 varieties will be offered for sale at the fundraiser, including traditional reds and novelties, such as Shimmer Surprise, Orange Spice, Winter Rose and Ice Punch.
The show is open to Master Gardeners and the general public. No registration is required. For more information, including directions, please visit 2014 Poinsettia Show and Sale.
Running concurrently with the sale, Jim Barrett and his research team will be holding their annual National Poinsettia Cultivar Trialsshow. This display will feature more than 6,000 plants and is the largest show of its kind in North America. Each year, Barrett conducts a consumer survey to determine preferences of the public. Visitors are encouraged to participate in this survey. Commercial growers can find more information here.
