GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The following events are scheduled in the near future at the University of Florida:

Researcher to speak on state of Jewish community

Laurence Kotler-Berkowitz, senior research director at The Jewish Federations of North America, will present an overview of the Pew Research Center’s survey findings on the current state of the American Jewish community at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 in Pugh Hall. Kotler-Berkowitz advised the 2013 Survey of U.S. Jews. The event is free and open to the public. Discussion on importance of minority and youth vote

Maria Teresa Kumar, founder of Voto Latino, and UF political science professor Dan Smith will speak at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in Pugh Hall about the importance of the millennial and minority vote. Panel discussion on legalizing marijuana

“Legalize Marijuana? A Conversation with the Experts” will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s Allen L. Poucher Legal Education Series, presented by the Florida Law Review, will feature a panel of national experts in marijuana law, medicinal marijuana and public policy. The panelists include Carl Hart, associate psychology professor at Columbia University; Beau Kilmer, senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation; professor Robert Mikos from Vanderbilt University; and Dr. Scott Teitelbaum, professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at UF. Two-day domestic violence conference Oct. 30-31

“Survivors” Defendant/Victims of Domestic Violence Conference will be held Oct. 30-31 at the Levin College of Law. The conference will discuss domestic violence survivors who become defendants after responding to the violence against them. The event will feature leading domestic violence experts, including defense attorney Kevin Cobbin and attorney and author Joshua Safran. The event is free and open to the public.
