GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The following events are scheduled in the near future at or near the University of Florida:

Study Abroad Fair set for Sept. 17

The UF International Center will host the fall 2014 Study Abroad Fair at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Plaza of the Americas. UF study abroad program directors, independent program providers and former study abroad students will share their international experiences. The Study Abroad Services staff will also be available to explain the application process and help students find the right program. Student organizations will perform during the day.

UF marks Constitution Day with two events

UF will commemorate Constitution Day with two activities Sept. 17. “National Security and Privacy After Snowden,” will feature talks and Q&A from Senior District Judge Roger Vinson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida; Jon Mills, director for UF Law’s Center for Governmental Responsibility; and Sandra Chance, UF journalism professor and executive director of the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information. It starts at noon in UF Law’s Martin H. Levin Advocacy Center. It is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the foyer, with cake and lemonade. Smathers Libraries will also hold a Constitution Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library West colonnade. Attendees can write their own Constitutional amendment. Free pocket Constitutions and cake will be available, and a voter registration table will be set up.

Juvenile justice reform to be discussed

Tim Decker, a national expert on juvenile justice, and Christina Daly, the interim secretary for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, will discuss reforming the juvenile justice system at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 in Room 180 at the Levin College of Law. Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Forum examines medical marijuana issue

The Gainesville Sun and the Bob Graham Center will host a forum covering the aspects and varying perspectives of medical marijuana at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in Pugh Hall. Panelists will include Jon Mills, dean emeritus of the Levin College of Law, Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell and Paul Doering, co-director of the statewide Drug Information and Pharmacy Resource Center. The event and parking are free and open to the public.

Career Showcase at O’Connell Sept. 30, Oct. 1

Career Showcase will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the O’ Connell Center. The showcase is designed to help companies find talented students and alumni from a variety of majors in one location. Day one features non-technical majors and day two features technical majors. This event is open to UF students and alumni only.
