HAITI HELP STUDY -- University of Florida researchers say nongovernmental organizations dropped the ball in post-earthquake Haiti by not providing the long-term follow-through needed for their assistance projects to be truly effective. In fact, researchers say that routinely happens in NGO assistance projects in other crisis-stricken countries.

ANTS WILDLIFE CORRIDORS -- In a classic example of the law of unintended consequences, new University of Florida research suggests that wildlife corridors – strips of natural land created to reconnect habitats separated by agriculture or human activities – can sometimes encourage the spread of invasive species. The findings are particularly important in Florida, which plays host to animals such as Cuban tree frogs, Burmese pythons and feral hogs.
