GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- The following events are scheduled in the near future at the University of Florida:

Staff to greet students, parents
The University of Florida divisions of Business Affairs, Student Affairs and Human Resources are sponsoring the 14th annual Ask Me Campaign Aug. 19-26. Staffers and student leaders will greet new students and parents and distribute water during residence hall check-in Aug. 19 and the first two days of classes Aug. 25-26.

Convocation features author
Will Allen, author of “The Good Food Revolution,” the 2014 Common Reading Program book, will speak at the New Student Convocation at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 22 in the O’Connell Center. Doors open to students at 8 a.m. Allen is transforming the cultivation, production and delivery of healthy foods to under-served urban populations. As the son of a sharecropper, former professional basketball player, ex-corporate sales leader and long-time farmer, he is recognized as a national leader in urban agriculture and food policy. The book is required for all new freshmen.

Rally in stadium kicks off season
The University of Florida Alumni Association and the University Athletic Association are teaming up to host the first-ever “Rally in the Swamp,” a student pep rally to be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 24 in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to welcome students back to campus and get them ready for the season opener against Idaho. Student gates will open at 7 p.m. Prior to the event, students can play games to win prizes and the first 3,000 students will receive free pizza. The event will feature cheerleaders, Dazzlers, mascots, head coach Will Muschamp and members of the football team.
