GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The following events are scheduled in the near future at or near the University of Florida:

UF hosts law symposium

The Levin College of Law’s Federalist Society Student Chapter will host the 33rd Federalist Society National Student Symposium March 7-8 at the Reitz Student Union. Discussions will address debates about the balance of national security and personal freedom in the post-9/11 U.S.  More than 400 law students, lawyers, judges, and policy experts from across the country have registered.

Phoebe Miles to speak at Reitz

Phoebe Miles, founder of the Cade Museum and daughter of Gatorade inventor Dr. Robert Cade., will speak at 5 p.m. March 11 in the Reitz Student Union Auditorium as part of the Innovation Academy Speaker Series. Miles earned a bachelor’s degree in history and German from the University of Washington.

Florida civil rights history explored

The Samuel Proctor Oral History Program will host a panel titled, “The Florida Civil Rights Struggle: Past & Present,” at 6 p.m. March 12 in Pugh Hall, featuring key activists including Dan Harmeling and John Due. A special announcement will be made at the event about the unveiling of the Alachua County African American Project, funded by the UF Office of the Provost and the UF Institute for Hispanic-Latino Cultures.

Technology showcase coming up

The Office of Technology Licensing will host the 2014 Technology Showcase from 12:30 to 5 p.m. March 13 at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. The event will feature a discussion on alternative sources of funding for early-stage startups; presentations by 14 biomedical and technology startups that license UF technology or who operate out of the UF Innovation Hub; and an exhibition of eight  to 10 UF technologies that can serve as the basis for future companies.
