Historic Preservation Program events recognize local modern architecture

March 20, 2014

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Historic Preservation Program is collaborating with the nonprofit advocacy group Gainesville Modern and Alachua Habitat for Humanity to host the first Gainesville Modern Weekend.

The Modern Weekend events are intended to raise awareness of the Gainesville area’s mid-century modern architecture and the need to preserve this legacy. Like Palm Springs Modernism Week, Gainesville Modern Weekend is also meant to attract visitors to the region.

The weekend begins March 21 with a presentation and reception on campus and continues March 22 with a tour of local homes and a symposium..
