Dawson named interim law dean at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida law professor George L. Dawson has agreed to serve as interim dean for the University of Florida Levin College of Law, beginning July 15. 

Dawson is director of the College of Law Summer Program at the University of Montpellier in France. He joined the UF College of Law in 1981 as an associate professor and became a professor in 1984. From 1996 to 2000, he served as associate dean for academic affairs.

His previous academic experience includes positions as instructor at the University of Michigan, assistant professor, assistant dean and associate professor at the University of Oregon, and visiting professor at various institutions.

Dawson received his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Chicago. He is a member and former chair of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), past chair of the Association of American Law Schools Committee on Curriculum & Research, and chair of the LSAC Test Development & Research Committee.
