Business students, alumni can learn about local job opportunities

March 18, 2014

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Graduate Business Career Services office at the Hough Graduate School of Business will host its second annual “Stay in the Swamp” Career Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 21 in Hough Hall.

In partnership with CareerSource North Central Florida and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the event showcases and promotes local career opportunities to retain highly talented and skilled students and alumni in the Gainesville area. Employers will have one minute to pitch their company, job opportunities and organizational culture to job seekers, who will then have the opportunity to speak and network with the companies of their choice.

More than 30 local employers are expected to greet undergraduate and graduate business students and alumni in search of internships and part- or full-time jobs. This event is only open to current students and alumni of the Warrington College of Business Administration.

“This event creates a unique format to the normal career fair,” said Craig W. Petrus, director of career services for the Hough Graduate School of Business.  “The shift in format provides leverage to employers in an effort to increase their brand awareness among our students, along with facilitating stimulating conversation between both parties.”

Participating companies vary in industry and size; ranging from startups, such as Advanced Poker Training, Eventplicity, and Stage 7, to legacy companies such as Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, SumTotal Systems and Nanotherapeutics. International branding agency 160/90, one of Gainesville’s newest additions, is also scheduled to attend.

The career fair will take place in Hough Hall’s lobby. Brunch will be served for employers at 10:30 a.m.
