UFAA sponsors 5K run Saturday

The UF Alumni Association sponsors the 2nd Annual Gator Run at 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at UF’s Flavet Field. This year, fellow Gators stationed at Orange and Blue zones along the route will dust runners with colored powder. Runners of all skill levels are welcome. Registration for the 5K race begins at 2:30 p.m. Members of the UFAA, whether students or alumni, receive a discount. More details can be found at www.TheGatorRun.com

Wine-tasting events benefits public radio

Florida’s 89.1 WUFT-FM will host the25th annual “A Celebration of Wine” event from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom. All proceeds from the international wine tasting and auction will benefit the public radio station.  A special mobile site for iPhone or iPad will be available for guests to learn more about the wines during the tasting.

Students to improve Sidney Lanier Center

A student-run nonprofit organization, Project Makeover, will “make over” the Sidney Lanier Center, 312 NW 16th Ave., Gainesville, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 21-23.  Every spring, the organization chooses one school or center to revitalize with cleaning, organizing, landscaping and painting indoor and outdoor murals. Project Makeover will also hold a book and school-supply drive, as well as one “dream project.” Members have been fundraising for almost a year. More than 1,500 volunteers have signed up and as many 10 local organizations are sponsoring the event.

Senior vice presidents on panel
A roundtable discussion will address “What is scholarship?” at 4 p.m. Feb. 24 in Emerson Alumni Hall with a panel that includes UF’s senior vice presidents: Provost Joe Glover, Senior Vice President for Health Affairs David Guzick and Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources Jack Payne. Mike Foley, journalism master lecturer at UF, will facilitate. The discussion will include questions and comments from the audience.

Miss UF Pageant to be held Feb. 24

The Miss UF Pageant, put on by Florida Blue Key, will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts.  The contest includes an on-stage question, a talent competition, an evening wear portion, and a lifestyle and fitness swimsuit portion. Tickets will be sold at the door for $15. Twenty contestants are vying to represent UF at the Miss Florida pageant in June.
