UFPD publishes annual security and safety report

October 1, 2013

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In an effort to improve student and community safety awareness, use current technology (thereby conserving resources), and in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, commonly referred to as the Clery Act, the University of Florida Police Department has published its annual 2013 “UF Together for a Safe Campus – Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR)” safety brochure.

The University of Florida Health Science Center-Jacksonville (UF HSC-J), in conjunction with Shands Security, has also published its ASFSR as a separately designated campus of the University of Florida. This brochure, designed specifically for those who study and work within, or visit the Jacksonville Regional Campus of the University of Florida, provides information both for the Jacksonville and Gainesville campus locations.

Both brochures include statistics for the previous three years (the  previous two years for the UF HSC-J campus) concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Florida, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the UF  or UF HSC-J campus.  It also includes institutional policies concerning campus security such as policies regarding alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, sexual assault, the reporting of crimes, and other personal and property safety issues.

Also as required by the Clery Act, both brochures contain a Fire Safety Report section as well. The Fire Safety Report section contains information with respect to the campus fire safety practices and standards.  Also contained within the Fire Safety Report section is information pertaining to:

  • A description of the on-campus student housing facility fire safety system.
  • The number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year.
  • Policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in a student housing facility.
  • Procedures for student housing evacuation in case of a fire.
  • Policies regarding fire safety education and training programs provided to the students and employees.
  • A list of the titles of each person or organization to which students and employees should report that a fire occurred.
