Good deeds, special music to recognize 9/11 anniversary

September 11, 2013

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two events today at the University of Florida will recognize the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Carillonneur Mitchell Stecker will be performing “In memoriam — September 11, 2001″ by John Courter from the carillon in Century Tower during his 12:35 p.m. recital. Here’s the program link: http://arts.ufl.edu/carillon/documents/2013_3Fall/recital20130909.pdf

The Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student Center and the Chabad-Lubavitch Student Group will commemorate the anniversary with a Good Deed Mitzvah Marathon in honor of the victims from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Participants will be able to choose from a variety of good deed opportunities.  They will fill out a form to document their good deed and attach it to a picture of a victim of 9/11, which will then be fastened to a mini wooden replica of the twin towers, creating the ‘twin towers of good deeds and love.’  Each participant will receive a sticker acknowledging his or her good deed.  At 12:40 p.m. a moment of silence will take place in memory of the 9/11 victims.
