GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Here are the releases the University of Florida’s media relations office expects to send next week, subject to change:

Monday, Aug. 5

Tuesday, Aug. 6
UF PREEMINENCE — The University of Florida has launched an ambitious initiative to raise $800 million during the next three years to position UF among the nation’s best public research universities.

PAIN SOURCE — That throbbing pain really is all in your head — or at least in your brain, say scientists. This finding, which contradicts current medical thought, may change how researchers seek future therapies for pain sufferers.

Wednesday, Aug. 7
FORESTWATER — UF researchers have found that prescribed forest fires may significantly increase the amount of water to aquifers, the underground water sources that supply water we use to drink and water our lawns and crops and more. They made their finding after studying how reducing the amount of trees and shrubs, or biomass, in the forest affects water supply.
