GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Fall semester classes at the University of Florida start Aug. 21, and one of the first signs is Fall Check-In for students living on campus.

About 270 Gator Aide student volunteers will assist new students moving into residence halls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in Beaty, Broward, Jennings and Rawlings halls. Check-In runs through Tuesday. Social media updates about UF residence hall check-in are planned on the UFHousing Facebook page, Twitter @UFHousing, and #UFMOVEIN.

In addition, New Student Convocation will be held Monday in the O’Connell Center. Convocation is UF’s official welcome for new first-year students starting classes in summer or fall semesters. Doors open at 8 a.m., and the program begins at 9:30 a.m. Learn more at http://www.dso.ufl.edu/nsfp/new-student-convocation.

Many of those students will be studying abroad or working in internships, activities students traditionally engage in during the summer.
  • The Collegiate Veterans Success Center — The center opened in April in Yon Hall to serve the roughly 1,200 veterans who attend UF. The space contains a large lounge/kitchenette for meetings of the Collegiate Veterans Society, socializing, support and programming. It also has a group study room and a room designed for individual study.
  • UMatter, We Care — Part of the Division of Student Affairs, UMatter, We Care extends UF’s caring culture by educating our community about signs and symptoms of distress and provides students and employees in distress with the appropriate resources. http://www.umatter.ufl.edu/
  • Reitz Student Union expansion and renovation — Demolition on the Colonnade is underway, but the Union will be up and running throughout the project, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2015. http://makeitreitz.com/
