Entrepreneurial service program to tout successes at lunch

WHAT: The University of Florida will recognize 42 high school students on Friday who completed a five-week summer program that included two college-level courses and 85 hours of community service each. The students also met with successful entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs and community leaders as well as participated in many other activities.

WHO: Students from around Florida, their families, and area residents who helped with the program. Entrepreneur Scott Fore, founder of NobleHour.com and sponsor of the program’s scholarships, is keynote speaker. More than 200 people are expected.

WHEN: The lunch program will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Presidents Room, Emerson Alumni Hall.

IMPACT: The 4,165 hours of service represent $93,231 in value to the local community for such organizations as Florida Organic Growers, Phoenix Neighborhood Afterschool Program, Gainesville Compost, Repurpose Project, Swallowtail Farm CSA and others. BACKGROUND: The UF Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership & Sustainability program started in 2007 with 19 students. This year more than 180 students applied, and there was a waiting list. The program is sponsored by UF’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in the Warrington College of Business Administration
