IndyCar and driver to be on campus tomorrow

March 18, 2013

IZOD IndyCar driver Simona De Silvestro and her Nuclear Clean Air Energy car will be on the Reitz Student Union North Lawn on the University of Florida campus, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 3 to 5 p.m. Together with her team, KV Racing Technology, De Silvestro will be helping to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and careers in the energy industry.

The event is jointly organized by AREVA Inc., a leader in solutions for low-carbon power generation, the University of Florida’s College of Engineering, and the local chapter of Women in Nuclear, known as WIN. Together, these groups hope to encourage interest in engineering education and to talk with the public about career opportunities in the energy market.

This is the first time an IndyCar will be brought to campus, and it’s a rare opportunity to meet “The Swiss Miss,” as De Silvestro is often called, due to her Swiss upbringing. She is due to compete at the Honda Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Fla., the following weekend.
