February 4, 2013

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Paddy Maloney, The Chieftains and special guests will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts.

Fresh off their 50th anniversary world tour, the six-time Grammy award winners return to Gainesville for the second stop on a 28-date U.S. tour.

“We are re-energized and more excited than ever to tour the United States,” said Moloney, The Chieftains’ founder and leader. “I feel that the upcoming tour could hold some of our most exciting shows to date. The band is at the height of performing and the shows are bigger and better than ever.”

The Chieftains have been honored in their own country by officially being named Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors and their music remains as fresh and relevant as it was when they first began.

The band achieved the highest Billboard debut of its career in 2012 with “Voice of Ages,” which Rolling Stone called “killer” and Billboard hailed as “momentous.”
