January 16, 2013

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — MOMIX returns to the Phillips Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 with a performance of the critically acclaimed work “Botanica.”

The company has been featured in film and television, including national commercial campaigns for Hanes and Target. The Philadelphia Inquirer said of MOMIX director Moses Pendleton, “his inventiveness and artistry far surpass the popular Cirque du Soleil.”

This production displays dance at its most organic and inventive. With costumes, projections, custom-made props, puppetry and a score ranging from birdsong to Vivaldi, “Botanica” showcases the endlessly renewable energy of the company’s performers.

For 30 years, MOMIX under the direction of Pendleton has been celebrated internationally for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body.
