Touring company of musical features UF alumnus

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A production of “West Side Story” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts.

The musical by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim tells the story of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance around them. The score features such classics as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight” and “Somewhere.”

The production marks the touring debut of 2011 UF graduate Thaddeus Pearson, who will play Federico. He was recently nominated for a Broadway World award for his role in “Meet Me In St. Louis.”
